Tour of Shenandoah Wrap Up. 5th.
Wow what an awsome but tiring weekend. I am sorry I didn't write but I was on the road and completely wooped!
We started off with a 3 mile uphill ITT(4th)/ a pm down town Harrisonburg crit, 3 tough point to point road stages in the mountians (4th,3rd&?) and a finishing crit in downtown waynesboro where I attacked like a demon and whent out guns a blaze!
I had no clue who I was racing against but the field was legit, really strong. The dude that won Roman Kilun was second at the Sea Otter Road Race and 3rd overall! There is no way in hell I would have let that dude up the road with a *?/'#! 8 min gap on the freezing rain soaked stage to Peaks of Otter if I knew then what I know now! The 8 man move was way up the road and by the time the chase started we had only 30 miles left.
The young men of Tiaa/Creff were on the attack constantly and put in a good race and the Endevor team was a hard lot including Brent Bookwalter. And the hard working TargeTraining squad that included USA National Champion Chann McRae and 8th at Nova Desert Classic XC Athony Colby.
In Today's final stage crit all of the top teams neutralized each other well and I was a marked man after my hammering the last few days.
Stephano, my former team mate from K2, was really aggressive this week and got 6th in the overall.
The Tour of Shenandoah is getting a lot of media and, despite a few mistakes, we had a lot of fun and the form is good. It will be exiting to see what is on tap for next year. Word is that there will be a mountain top finish on Reddish Knob, a Cat 1 beast that is 10 miles long! I can't wait.
I was hanging in 5th before the crit and I think the GC stayed the same.
With some hard work and a great team we rocked the boat and finished with a smile.
Thanks to Erin for her hard work and organization, thanks to our new friend Micah Thompson from for his tireless riding, Jody for cooking, Les of East Coast Bicycle Academy for wrenching and getting rid of my Leffe supply, Sim for riding and being the DS main man, Chris for firing it up in the crit and pushing all race, Todd for the bitchin lead out at 25 m/hr up the base of Mt. Vesuvious and Chardin for lending us radios.
Later gator. I got to ride!
