Trainer Jam!
Ouch! Another 2.5 hour jam session on the trainer.
It was painful.
So I was indoors from all the snow thinking of how much I wished I was chasing my own tail on the trails somewhere. I had an evil workout scheduled and I was looking for trash to take out or anything to postpone the pain. What a wimp.
It took a little time to motivate but I did get on the horse and pushed it hard completing the bulk of this beastly workout.
Intervals, intervals, intervals oohhh la la! I felt like I was really going to puke! Erin even brought over the trashcan for me to hurl in. I held it in and took a deep breath. I looked down and it was time again. GO! GO!
I hoped on the rollers for another 45 mins of endurance work afterward and I actually felt pretty good.
Afterward Erin and I went down to a local hangout, Luigi's, with the Stava, Taco (Aka Jacob), Amanda, Kelly, Sarah and Andy. We had some good eats, some beer and some good laughs!
I hope you got to ride outside today.
Enjoy the ride

The Saturday Super Swank Road Ride "Dogged Winter"
The 10:30 am roll out of SBC was especially prompt today. Our group left the parking lot at like 10 of 11! UHG. Our posse included the hard-core regulars that don't mind the weather. Andy B, Jeff (the Hammer) Herrick and (luck dog) Kyle along with myself headed out on our shorter than usual 2 hr jaunt.
I guess I called Kyle lucky dog because about half way thru our ride this psycho killer dog was going for Kyle's front wheel and the only reason he didn't take his wheel out is because the dog lost traction in the gravel used ironically to provide motorist more traction in foul weather. I wonder how man dog stories I could come up with.
Best dog story post wins a autographed team jersey from last year. No Todd, you don't count.
The cold weather slowed us all like lizards crawling thru the wind swept roads of little Belgium. Omloop Het Volk was today and the conditions may have been similar beside the sweet smell of Euro Diesel team cars and the licorice smells of spectators smoking cigarettes.
It was really fun to ride this slow as it allowed the conversations brew into a colorful potpourri of humor and roadside commentary and tales about Russia. U just had to be there….
Enjoy the ride.

COLD MOUNTAIN!
Snowing all day here.
We got about 4 inches in town, it looks like Alaska yesterday on my ride in the mountains!
I got in 1:50 in, on the mountain bike over at Second Mountain. The snow didn’t stick to the roads much so they are at least clear. I was amped to do a long ride but I locked my keys in the Euro van in the middle of a snowstorm. It wasn't a normal stupidity I was parked next to a graveyard and they were having a funeral! All dressed for the funeral two people drive past and I hurried to get out of their way. So I closed the door. OH NO!!! Luckily the guy who delivers the vaults had his cell phone. It sucked BAD. I tried to unlock the door for close to an hour and then I gave up and took a seat in the warm truck that delivers burial vaults.
Thankfully Erin rescued me and brought the spare keys.
Slush puddles for feet I decied to go riding anyway. It was a great ride, I am glad I went. It was not the five hours I had planed but life rarely goes by script. The mountains where veiled in wafting powder, truly awesome
I miss Clemson sunshine!
Go ride ya bike.

TRAINER TIME!!/ Good Cholesterol .. good boy
Today it got cold and luck would have it Hunter had me scheduled for a trainer ride. He must be psychic or something. Anyone who knows me knows I usually dread the trainer, ask Todd.
Today was a burly 2hr trainer ride followed by recovery drink and 30 min rest then another 45 min skills session outside on the sleek new Trek Fuel 110 mountain bike. I was pretty much kooked, yeah kooked with a K. I wasn't planning on the second ride but Jeff Herrick (my partner in crime) called and talked me into it. I said "are you trying to kill me?" he said "No" I said OK and we went. We did the JMU urban assault thing and I picked up my blood lab work from the doc. My Cholesterol is down to a sane 190!!!! Great news. My last blood work (for the UCI) showed a gastly cholesterol of !^%$@#%@* 244!!!! Yikes. I hate taking medicine and I hate needles so I am happy not to have to get on meds. It was funny when my freind said I should exersize more, strange thing is it must have worked.
I think riding 5hrs on the road tomorrow should seem fun and such a change from today that the time will fly by. I am going to start out at the Shenandoah Bicycle Co. road ride at 11 am and then head over the mountains towards Erin's parents.
She went there to visit today and took the VW eurovan. I can't have that you know.
Trainer time: I jammed out on the trainer and I felt good. I though I was going to only make it half way thru this one. My legs felt like mashed potatoes from the pounding Chris Eatough and Todd Helmick put on me during the last two days.
Wattage was good the only deviation from plan was additional time and nine surges from 310 up to 350w for 30s. instead of five. I paid for that an hour later when I whent for the 3, 5 min 350 watt efforts. That last one was tough. All in all I am feeling alot better and I am regaining most of my lost fitness quickly.
A great average of 337watts for 1:45.
2:10 Trainer getting run over.
:45 MTB running over things.
I had a good time of it, this trainer thing is't so bad.
I wonder what Stava’s doing???

Being Sick is Boring
My e-mail reply to the French Connection....
Hey Sim, (Buddy from France)
Kashi has got his ways of training so I think he is on the slow road to speed. I don't like getting dropped that sucks!!! Tell him I said I miss him and I want some fashion tips next time we hang out. (Kashi got droped in his first 2 races in France with Simm's road team)
My training was going awesome almost too good I was testing at 470 watts at threshold a week ago. Now I am sick and haven't ridden in 5 days! RATS. I guess I needed the rest. My power at AT isn't enough to light a 120v light bulb past a dim glow right now.
I may race Tour de Puerto Rico, a UCI stage race. I got shut down from Discovery team Oh Well. I think Lance hates me. I spit on him on Alp Duez... well actually it was just some drool, I was drinking a lot and yelling. He thinks I really tried to spit on him though. He's so stubborn.
I was thinking of doing Tour of Georgia but I can't even get into the Jefferson Cup, the field filled on the day registration opened! Maybe I could get into some office park crit instead ...I love those.
The race I am really looking forward to on the road is the Tour of Shenandoah! This race has got the GOODS, 7 Stages with some serious climbing. I would highly recommend you get your ass over here to check this s*** out! Other than that I would love to do the US pro Championships the Cap Tech Challenge and the Univest GP and a few other big races if I can find a team that would love me. ☹
Peace: JB

Mountain Bike Movie Magic
Last night Erin and I along with many friends and family had a great time seeing the prescreening of the Off Road to Athens documentary. Erins parents drove into town for the movie and brought the dog Shady. I was really happy that my family got to see our house and they got a much better idea of what my year was like.
To most, the word "documentary" makes you think of something slow and low on action. Not this one! This movie was awesome! The original music is skillfully mated with amazing action that made me have goose bumps and elevated heart rate for hours. On the edge of my seat I relived the suspenseful moments of the chase for the Olympic team.
Off Road to Athens is a hit, I think it is destined to become a classic, it surely is my favorite mountain bike movie ever!
The official premier is a the Sea Otter Classic, I am really looking forward to the reaction of the mountain bike community to the movie s story.
The super hero party at the bike shop afterward was really cool. People kicking trash cans and doing beer slides on the floor, Erin Johnson dressed as super sexy, Steve Stickle as super banana and me as super sick. I had my obligatory beer chatted with my buddy Jim Potts and made a b-line for my bed and the 12 hrs of sleep that I much needed to recover from the bug I conveniently caught today.
Go ride your bike. I wish I could go too.
Thanks for reading

Off Road to Athens
Wow here it goes.
Saturday at 4pm the pre-release to Off Road to Athens is taking flight at Grafton Stovall Theater at James Madison University.
I’m not sure whats in store but indications are that it is going to be awesome, an epic tale complete with a custom sound track and an amazing story.
The few shots I have seen are really creative. The action cinematography is the best mountain bike imagery I have ever seen on camera. It gives me goose bumps to watch it. I feel like getting on the trainer and hammering just thinking about it.
Ken just got a parting shot of Erin and me chasing each other around in the snow, fun, fun. It will be cool to see what of all this filming actually makes the movie.
I was in Bedford yesterday getting some testing done down at Peaks Coaching Group and I got this call from the Daily News Record and they interviewed me about the movies story and the behind the scenes stuff. Then I woke up this morning and Erin said I was on the cover of the Breeze JMUs paper. “A man on a mission†it said. Whoa. COOL!
So momentum is building for this weeks premier. Make the trek if you can I am sure you will be glad you came!
To get more info go to: offroadtoathens.com. Some tickets may be available at the door but I will be scalping them at like 30 dollars a pop!! Just kidding. ;)

The Fuel 110 is TOPS!
I just got my new Fuel and it is out of control! Like a silvery shark it is read to slip down the trail. Because I got a promotion to the Trek/ Volkswagen National Team our bikes have full Shimano and Rock Shox!
An awesome bike indeed.
I am not sure if it is the Rock Shox, or the frame but the bike feels light and springy. I took mine out on a road ride yesterday and got used to the shifting pretty qulckly. I was hesitant to do any thing crazy on the bike in the begining but on my way back into town I found my self, scouting the urban terrain for some stuff to jump. It feels fast! I jumped this curb going fast and was riding a high enbankment in the grass. I was head strait at a big cut out in front of me for some ones front steps with barriers on each side...OH SHIT.. I sailed over it and managed to get comfortabe with the bike really quick! SWEET! Shandro would be proud.
I agree with Chris I think the race x-lite pro saddle is going to a great racing saddle. The shell is a bit on the stiff side. I would like to modify one for more flex.
Other than that the bike worked great. Thanks uncle Zach.
See ya'll real soon.
