Nick Waite, Chris Scott and I did the Massenutten Loop yesterday. I like to ride this route becaues you circumnavigate this big mountain and there are no short cuts. Well yesterday it backfired a little. Our ride set out a little late and I was on my mountain bike with semi slicks and Nick was on his 16 lb Trek Madone! So no problem for the 1st 2 hours, Chris tuned back. As we realized the sun was about to set, I said you going to have to tow me home. OUCH maybe I should have called Erin for the ride of shame! Nick hates big trucks, cars and riding in the scetch of twighlight. I could sense this because he would speed up to 25mph like he was running from the cars and I would try to get small and tuck in what little draft he puts off.
We chased the shimmery sliver of orange that was once a day. It was cool in a way. Then I thought ok we got to get outa here NOW enough sight seeing!
It was like 29 degrees at the end of the ride but we made it back before getting too cold or run over. I think I will save watching the sun set from the back porch from now on!
Watch out ya'll wear your blinkis reflectors and don't ride into the sun! Ride under it!
