ShOrt HoRse MouNTain TriaL

Nick and I where looking for a slow trail to ride since we had some mean air visiting from alberta. Well we found one, I have only riden short horse twice because it is so techi and gnarly it seems like a constant game of power moves set up and a few power hills where you balence finness.

The trail was in great shape with no snow but it was cold around 20 at the top but plenty of sun and fun kept up warm. Sometimes a ride is called epic because it is long but around here it can mean a number of things. In the case of short horse mountian trail it is because it it is wicked as pissed rattlesnake. This trails has shoots and ladders, drops, rock wall rides slabs, gap jumps and rolly loose scree that makes you cringe at what may happen should you stack it. We did not wreck so it was a blast!!

Check out this trail if you dig it double black rocky.

Top tips for fighting frostbite and hypothermia on long rides.

1. put vasaline on your face (prevents cold spots).
2. use winter cycling boots!
3. search the single track, (for every mile per hr reduction it is close to a degree in wind chill).
4. start with warm sports drink. (it won't freeze as fast since it is a solution and you can drink more when it is't ice.)
6. head for the hills (see wind chill)
7. be modular don't count on one piece to keep you warm and pack a dry base layer in case of the sweats.
8. Bring over gloves. (they keep the chill away on the road sections)
9. Ride into the wind to start with (then you will know what your getting into).
10. Tell someone where you went and bring a space blanket so they can come look for you if the above wasn't enough.

Have fun. Jeremiah.

Gabrill Rocks.

You guys like rocks??

Chris Jeff Shalk and I met up for an awesome east coast hardcore mountain bike ride at Gabrill State park and the Fredrick watershed area Wednesday. I think there was some definite flavor of North Shore added since the last time I rode there. Super cool rock dropes ladders and squirly boulder rides that have some penalty for sloppy riding! SWEET>

If you haven't checked it out you should it is full on double black diamond rated and most of it natural. Chris was schoolin us on his Fuel EX Carbon damn that bike is smooth or at least Chris made it look like a magic carpet that glided over the cold slab boulders and jaged baby heads. I can't wait to get a ride on that bike, it is wicked cool.
Certiainly one of the highlights of our day was a lady riding with her 60 somthing mom on the rocky trails 27degrees and snowing. I took a double take she was riding here?? YEAH. .totally rad.

Happy trails. JB

Rest week chillin.

Well winter is back and I couldn't have timed the training better.
I just got back from an epic camp in SC with world X Terra Champion Ian Davidson, Nick the Spider Wait and Jeff Shalk aka Captin Cadence. We got in alot of good ridin and even did the chicken ride conveinenty the rain has held off for both of my off days in the last 2 weeks sweet!

I get the good feeling that luck has been on my side this pre- season and the weather has been like spring!
So for now Erin and I are just going to finish the painting in the dining rooms and I am going to try to read 2 books this week.

The 1st will be Trianing and Racing with a Power Meter. Written by my Coach Hunter Allen. If you know where to look you can see some of my files and journal entries. This book is really the difinitive guide to implementing a power meter into a art and science of training.

The other will be TBD. any recomendations? If I read your book you get a free autographed jersey from my freind Ryan Stava.

Sweet... :)

JB.
