World Cup Downhill

No, not the one in Maribor.

Yesterday I rode out from town to my local training spot - Massanutten Mountain. I live on the west side of the mountain, and on the eastern side is the Massanutten Four Season Resort. Twelve years ago it was the site of a UCI World Cup downhill. That year, I raced and crashed in the amateur dual slalom.

Anyway, I have a nice route that climbs the 1000-foot gravel access road on the western slope. Then I climb the ski mountain and ride down the downhill courses and then I ride back over the mountain and finish up with the 40-minute ride back to town.

I was curios to see what the course for last weekend's Virginia State downhill championship was like. (Congrats to Sue, she won!)The corners were still taped, but I could ride the whole thing despite the fact I was riding my hard tail. FUN!
The course is technical but does not have any of the real scary stuff that I have seen on the DH courses in the last few years.

I can't wait to get my Fuel EX built up, I have some trails to catch up with and that is the perfect bike for Virginia mountains. Way rocky.

Oh yeah, this week is bike to work week!
So for my part I'm going to ride from home to go on all my mountain bike rides. But really, I have commuted by bike a lot and it is a great thing to do and fun, too, so give it a whirl.
