JB's Adventure Blog: 12/28/08

I was fighting a cold yesterday and packed it in early, forgoing the fun new year's party at our friends Thomas and Julie's.

Surprisingly, I woke up and felt fine and dodged the bullet, so I set out with a friend of mine JMU Kinesiology department head Dr. Mike Saunders and one of his former students Kyle Knott. Twenty five degrees at 10 a.m. had me thinking this ride might suck, but it was a great day and warmed up nicely in the sun. The hours of talk about training science research and theorem made the miles tick until we would be surprised by a sprint sign and ZOOM.

Kyle popped out a 1450 sprint, I beat him doing only 1250 though, Ha ha! Good fun. He has much to learn, but once he does my ass is grass for the town line competition!

Kyle, Mike and I had a great ride and headed toward Natural Chimneys and Kyle and I ventured further south to Staunton, New Hope and Port Republic we made our way back just before dark.

An awesome ride to kick things off for a fantastic 2009.

Andy McKeegan, Ryan Fawley and I hit a fat road ride into the bowels of the gravel empire I call the Augusta Triangle. Maze-like the roads snake through forested hills and small horse farms with sinuous curves and short but punchy terrain. Most of the roads in our county (Rockingham) are wide open with great views of the mountains so it's easy to navigate, it's not so in Augusta county, hence the Bermuda triangle-type name.

We were cruising and catching up, and it sounds like Ryan is looking to do the GT Golden Bike Challenge. It seems like if you win one they reward you with full support and airfare to the next event until someone knocks you off the pedestal. It got me to thinking, he could help me test the Expert Cat 1 training plans I am putting together with Hunter Allen. So far it's a fun project stay tuned to www.trainingpeaks.com or here for more.

Later on, Erin and I went to McKeegan's to hang out and watch the 9 Ball Diaries. It was weird, the scenes where TJ is playing with his 9 balls in the smokey pool hall. I guess that was a smoke effect or something. I would like to go play pool now. Andy meanwhile is plotting his attack on the `09 cross season already.

Andy was so pumped up watching the movie, he was like bouncing in his chair screaming cyclocross is #!&%#*@ awesome! After the indy style film, Andy wished to prove he weighed less than me for the first time in modern history. So we all ran for his weigh in. I sensed the blog potential and grabbed my I phone like a cowboy at a high noon showdown goes for the Winchester.

Sweet! Ha ha ha..... White chicken! No I did not join in. I guess i need to back off the holiday cookies and get back in a groove anyway.
