Team IMBA Time!

Erin, here... Okay, friends and fellow mountain bikers, we only have a few days left until the HooHa, and that means it's crunch time for Team IMBA fundraising. Once we rally $500, SRAM will MATCH those funds! We've gotta take advantage of this great opportunity for our local trails. If you're reading this, and I've got the stats to prove there's over 2,000 of you each day, then you know how important the trails are, and what a significant role IMBA plays in advocating for and building them. We hope you'll kick in just $5 or $10 towards the cause. And to sweeten the deal, I'll make sure Jeremiah sends an autographed jersey for the person or organization to make the biggest donation between now and Saturday morning at 9 a.m. In the meantime, big shout outs to Advantage Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, Jeff Haden at BlackBird Media and Mike Van Abel for jump starting the fundraising. We're over a quarter of the way to our goal of $1,000!
Thanks!
Erin, Jeremiah and Conrad

(Here's a recap post of Jeremiah's TEAM IMBA blog:)

One of the cross country races I look forward to each summer is the Massanutten Hoo-Ha. This year the event is celebrating it's twenty-first running and teaming up with IMBA as a Team IMBA Event. The Hoo-Ha is also a stop on the Kenda Cup East series and will feature some great new trails built by hard working members of the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition, so there are tons of reasons why the twenty-first annual Hoo-Ha is going to be better than ever!

I've joined the SVBC Team IMBA as a great way for me to partner with my club to shoot for a fundraising goal that will continue the good work that IMBA and the SVBC are all about.

Just think, each trail that is properly built, maintained and enjoyed responsibly now is one that will still be going strong when Conrad is ready to head out on a ride of his own!

The next generation!

I hope to reach my goal with your support. Every $10 contribution will add up to make a big difference. To donate, and learn more about Team IMBA and the SVBC, check out my Team IMBA page.

Thanks for your support, I hope to see you at the Hoo-Ha! Look for me at the MonaVie-Cannondale.com tent!

World Bicycle Relief 48-Hour Fund Drive

YO! In lieu of you guys sending me Christmas presents this year, please donate 20 bucks to World Bicycle Relief. I know cash is tight but now is a great chance to have your funds MATCHED. Cool, huh? See below...

## Press Release ##

World Bicycle Relief has undertaken an ambitious drive to raise US$13,400 in just 48 hours – from noon CST Wednesday, December 17, through noon CST Friday, December 19, the organization looks to raise enough money to purchase 100 bicycles for its programs in Africa. What's more, a generous donor has agreed to match all donations through the end of the year, so the goal is really 200 bikes – impacting the lives of more than 4,000 people.

Donations are being accepted through www.doublebikematch.org, and any amount will help, with each $134 representing an entire bicycle.

(Additional editorial assistance provided by Susan Westemeyer.)
## End Release ##

I will get one of these special Christmas tree ornaments for the person that wrangles the most friends into donating! It's the gold medal from the course-record-breaking Ice Man Cometh Challenge this year!

Good luck!

My Victory

This is Erin, blogging in for Jeremiah with exciting news! This morning a good friend of mine e-mailed me to tell me that she'd just seen Jeremiah during NBC Today's coverage of the USADA clean sport campaign "My Victory."

Here's a teaser:

USADA's My Victory campaign was developed in collaboration with a number of inspirational athletes. USADA describes the title My Victory as symbolizing the ideal that all athletes fully dedicate themselves and make sacrifices for the love of their sport, in the interest of reaching the pinnacle of success, which is personal achievement through honest effort and ability, and without performance-enhancing drugs.

Jeremiah and I have truly enjoyed his opportunity to partner with USADA for this initiative. It is encouraging to see the dedication and resources that are committed to protecting and promoting the integrity of sport and the accomplishments of athletes like Jeremiah.

Here is a clip featuring Jeremiah and some of his background relating to competition and clean sport.

This is the full-length promotional video that will be seen in movie theaters and other applications.

For more complete information about the initiative and Jeremiah's role, check out the News page.

Thanks for reading!

Rent's Due

I'm actually talking about paying the planet.

You might think I'm crazy or that I've spent too much of my time listening to the song Beds are Burning from Midnight Oil.

The time has come
To say 'fair's fair'
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

For now, I'm talking carbon emissions. All of us can reduce our emissions by driving less and biking more. Sounds good to me! But, what about the miles that we can't seem to avoid driving? You've probably heard about carbon off-setting.

I admit that I was skeptical about the latest crop of carbon-offsetting programs, until I did some research and learned more about the process. For example, did you know it could take as few as four trees to offset one TON of carbon?

One of my sponsors - Volkswagen - has partnered with CarbonFund.org Foundation to offset one year's carbon emissions for all new Volkswagen purchases made in the US, now through January 2. This Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project has also made it easy for current VW drivers (like me) to calculate and offset their yearly emissions.

Contributions to CarbonFund.org support carbon-reducing programs focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency and re-forestation. Contributions specifically made to the Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project will fund the re-forestation of 1,100 acres of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley, a.k.a. the "VW Forest." Strategically planted in this fertile valley, the VW Forest will grow quickly and benefit from a long growing season each year. That's cool, eh?

I joined the Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project with a donation of $59.24. This offset the 25,000 miles Erin and I have driven in the VW Jetta and 6,000 (slightly faster) miles driven in my new Trek/VW GTI.

Even if your auto isn't a VW, you can participate. It's a cool thing to do. It takes just a little time and is inexpensive compared to the price we'll have to pay if we wait until later.

Get out there and do some good. Once you start, it's surprisingly easy.
Now, does anyone know where I can find a bicycle powered lawn mower?

Ciao,

JB
