Something New

(Erin here, once again invading the main page.) Jeremiah's about to begin the American Mountain Classic stage race in Brian Head, Utah, so before all that excitement gets underway I wanted to throw a link out to a new site that I was introduced to over the weekend.

I saw this graphic for MTBCast.com at the Fool's Gold 100, and by the day's end Jeremiah was giving an audio interview for the site. If you want to check out the broadcast you can follow this link: http://mtbcast.com/wordpress/, scroll down to episode 110 and click the little play arrow.

I'll break it down for you, if you want to get straight to some good stuff. Jeremiah and Jeff Schalk's playful smack talk begins at 3:40, race director Eddi O'dea gives his predictions at 5:23, race notes continue at 6:35, at 8:01 smack talk karma is revealed, Jeremiah's interview starts at 8:33, followed by interviews with Trish Stevenson, Gunnar Shogren, race announcer Bruce "the mouth of the South" Dickman, and others.

We really did have a blast down in Georgia, especially thanks to the great people we met and enjoyed the festival with.

JB should be blogging in with AMC race updates. Check back for those. Results and other updates will be posted on the News page.

Have fun riding!

New for '08

It's me, Erin, stopping by JB's blog again. You might have noticed the new photo gallery. If you've yet to explore this, click on the Gallery link to the left. There should be some new albums added today, and frequently throughout the year. Also, be sure to check out the Sponsors page, it's been updated with links to some of the great companies and organizations that have teamed up with Jeremiah for 2008.

In the coming weeks, there will be great new features coming to JeremiahBishop.com, including an awesome promotion with long-time team sponsor JBL. It's going to be so cool, I'm having a hard time not spilling the beans right now. (In the meantime, JBL has a special portal where cycling fans can access discounts on products. This helped me out when I was doing my Christmas shopping. Now, instead of blasting his iPod headphones while riding on the trainer, Jeremiah can pump out great tunes courtesy of a new JBL Radial.)

Lately, there's been a lot of excitement in Harrisonburg. We've hosted family and friends, including some of Jeremiah's favorite training pals. Our local crew enjoyed celebrating at the annual solstice party. If you're talented at Boolean searches, you might find some photos online. Christmas and New Year's Eve were both enjoyable holidays for us, and hopefully for you, too.

Now, it's time to make plans for the year ahead. The coldest days of winter are about to move into the 'Burg and I see a trip to Clemson in my near future.

It seems like most people have a few little tricks to staying warm, or at least fooling themselves out the door on the coldest days. Other than the usual warm winter wear, I treat myself to those tiny foot warmers and mix my Cytomax with warm water. Sometimes, Jeremiah will use Climitts over his handle bars. Do you have any special tricks? Do tell!

Making News

This is Erin, breaking free from Meanwhile and invading the main page (again).

Lately, I've enjoyed stumbling upon Trek/Volkswagen news almost everywhere I look.

Jeremiah and I hosted the guys from Bike Magazine a few weeks ago, and shortly thereafter were treated to a recap of the shenanigans Kip Mikler enjoyed while he was in Harrisonburg.

While we enjoyed the rugged east coast of the USA, Trek's Michael Browne was in Mexico on an adventure of his own with the new Remedy.

To top it off, Sue was making news as she conquered La Ruta de los Conquistadors!

Today, Jeremiah is out on an epic training ride with teammate Jeff Shalk. It's not often when they leave me with a map of their anticipated route. But on day's like this, when they do, there is an unspoken understanding that I'll be at the ready to launch a search an hour after sunset if there's been no sign of them. Some of my friends might think that's crazy, but it's just a regular day for me.

Vive le Tour, Happy Fourth!

Some would say it was misfortune that lead to Jeremiah's participation in the 2007 Tour... others would call it the best of luck.

After his podium ride in the Deer Valley NMBS race, Jeremiah fell ill with a respiratory infection, quite possibly influenza, and he flew home from the Mt Saint Anne World Cup. His fever was over 100 degrees for days and he complained of aches all over. After a week of high quality rest and recovery, looking ahead to the Saint Felicien World Cup, Jeremiah knew that he'd lost his shot at the top World Cup performances he'd trained for all year. With focus remaining on the US National Championships and the later season, he and his coach decided that a high-quality training block would be ideal. Jeremiah would skip the second Canadian World Cup to fully recover and begin a wildly ambitious training schedule. So - good or bad - as luck would have it, Jeremiah would take part in the grandest of all stage races, le Tour de 'Burg!

Jeremiah will post a full account of the pain and suffering, but for now, here's a glimpse of what's been going on.

The US flag is proudly flown at the Bishop residence for the entirety of the world's grandest Tour, and in honor of US Independence Day.

Truth be told, Jeremiah was suffering in the opening prologue time trial, his first high-intensity after being ill. So novel to the local media, his suffering made the news. (note in results: I think Koerber's time is supposed to be 26:16, I don't know what the listed 6:05:16 is all about.)

Jeremiah and Todd ready for stage two of the Tour. Their smiles were even wider after Todd claimed the stage win, followed :06 seconds later by Jeremiah, who would hold the KOM for the stage.

Later, riders tackled the second stage of the day with a time trial on the newly built and oh-so-awesome Rocktown Trails at Hillandale Park. Even I managed to post a respectable time, finishing less than one minute down from the pro ladies and setting a time-to-beat for my next attempt on the course.

On Monday, the Tour returned to the mountain bikes with an assault on Massanutten ridge. It was during this stage that Jeremiah said he felt like he was able to really push it again. He threw down on the climbs and moved into the lead to claim the yellow jersey from Sam Koerber. The next day riders set out for another road stage, Todd wearing the KOM Leader's Jersey.

Riders enjoy a fully supported Tour, much thanks to Kari and Lindsey C. for their support. Here, the posse refuels during stage five.

The peleton makes its way through the scenic countryside toward the mountains.

One of the greatest Tour legends of all time has been sorely missed in '07. The entire peleton has kept him in their thoughts and hopes he can feel the love we're sending over the mountains to him.
With one mountain bike stage remaining, Jeremiah continues to hold the lead and fuels hopes that the yellow jersey will stay in Harrisonburg!

Happy Fourth of July,
Erin
