High and Fast

Today's NMBS short track in Brian Head, Utah was a blast.

It was my teammate Lea's first short track win. I was proud of how she rode smart and made one sharp move on the back stretch to take the lead from Katerina.

In the men's race I had fun playing out the tactics. A lead group formed and Ryan blew himself out chasing primes. I looked back and was surprised to see none of the favorites. JHK flatted and I guess the Kona boys were a little off pace.

Anyway, Ross took a jump and I was on the back of Collin Cares and Sam Jurekovic. Of course being a NASCAR-like short track I sat on and forced their team to make pace. I definitely made them slow and look over their shoulders to see who was getting the free ride. Part of me wanted to jump across the gap to Ross, but that could backfire.

With two-to-go Sam break checked me on the downhill, letting Collin go free for 60-feet, but I closed the gap quickly. We crossed the line with one-to-go, but with no bell, I was surprised when we finished.

Oh well, an assist and third were pretty cool. Great day for Trek/Volkswagen and the first time we've been able to work as a team to shut down a lead group and own the front of the race.

Fun stuff.

Tomorrow we are expecting temps in the 50's and thunderstorms. They've been talking about an alternate course, but rest assured I'm ready for whatever they throw at us!

Catamount!

The Trek/Volkswagen Team had a fun last night attending the longest running mid-week mountain bike series in the country at the Catamount act ski area!

There were close to 300 people there and it seemed like there were 100 or so kids there!!! WOW!

It was like a weekend event because Trek's "Demo Dave" was there with all kinds of bikes to try out, our team had a tent, we were signing autographs and the Little Belles were having a silent auction to raise money for their kids club.

The course was on fast act ski trails with rolling hills roots and a couple really nice turning single tracks that had roots and just a few rocks to keep us on our toes.

The race was super fun!

Notice that our team manager Zack just barely nipped Subaru Gary Fisher star Andy Bishop (also our host for the week). It's been neat hearing stories of him racing with Lemond and tales from the Tour de France.

After seeing how cool this was I am going to talk with our local club, the Shenandoah Bicycle Coalition, about having a Wednesday night series next summer too. It could be a great chance for riders to compete have fun and not drive really far to do it!

Next stop, my last World Cup of the year - BROMONT!
I'll keep ya posted!

Trek/Volkswagen Training Camp 08

Here we go!

The whole crew is back together for the pre-season tradition of team camp. This year we are in the land of red rock canyons, sage brush and slick rock.

Yup Moab, Utah.

The first few days we were blitzed with distribution of new bikes and gear plus photo sessions, including a first-ever night photo shoot.

John Laptad and his 3-person crew along with the Trek entourage of Michael Browne, Ray Waxam, Paul (the Trek art director) and our team made for quite a spectacle. The bikers driving by were really excited and waving. We were just as surprised to be there because of all the generators, flash towers with silver umbrellas, team cars parked atop slick rock, the strange shadows and new gear were a shock to the system. It kind of reminded me of 24 Hours of Moab!

More coming soon about some of our rides.

Stay tuned! Jeremiah
