Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project to Reforest Mississippi Alluvial Valley
Jeremiah Bishop, has joined Volkswagen in support of the CarbonFund.org Foundation Carbon Neutral Project.
With a donation of just $59.24, Bishop offset the 31,000 miles he has driven in 2007, split between a VW Jetta and VW GTI. "Each of us can reduce our emissions by using bicycles for shorter trips," Bishop suggests. "The Carbon Neutral Project can address the impact of the higher-mileage trips."
Through the partnership with CarbonFund.org, Volkswagen will offset one year's carbon emissions for all new Volkswagen purchases made in the US, through January 2. The Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project has also made it easy for current VW drivers to calculate and offset their yearly emissions.
CarbonFund.org supports carbon-reducing programs focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation. Contributions to the Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project will fund the reforestation of 1,100 acres of the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley, a.k.a. the "VW Forest." Strategically planted in this fertile valley, the VW Forest will grow quickly and benefit from a long growing season each year.
Bishop hopes others will join him in support of the Volkswagen Carbon Neutral Project. "Even if your car isn't a VW, you can participate," he says. "It's something worth doing. It takes just a little time and is inexpensive compared to the price we'll have to pay if we wait until later."
